Rare Ocean Blues part 2

"A certain blue enters your soul." — Henri Matisse Through my lens, the ocean reveals rare blues that shimmer and speak to my very essence— fleeting hues that remind us of the sea’s mystery, depth, and emotional resonance.

“Capturing Fleeting Light”

At last we have something we can call waves, so an early pre dawn rise it was to capture the reflections and moods as the day is dawning. Certainly no disapointment awaited at the shore. Greeting Mama Ocean and asking permission to witness the spectacle, I proceeded to find my perfect spot to capture her beauty and moods. And moody she was with a fairly big swell running with unpredictable precision.

Rare blue colours are a 'figment' of your brain. These blues have no pigment and and rely on light scatterings, reflection and particles to create 1000's of hues of blues. Light scattering becomes mystery, depth becomes silence, and slow-shutter becomes memory. Each photograph is both a record and an emotional translation, capturing the ocean’s rare blues as they enter the soul.

Through slow-shutter photography, I hold onto these fleeting interactions of light and water. Ripples become brushstrokes, reflections stretch into gradients, and sudden bursts of scattered light reveal shades of blue that exist only for a moment. The camera becomes a witness to the ocean’s secret dancing palette —rare blues that slip past the naked eye. 

Gold tones appear when the low angle of the sun is just perfect. There is a scientific explanation, which you can delve into if you want. To me, this great body of water acts as my mirror in this moment, where am I? The molten larva of gold to the steely blue's of life's mysteries are captured here. Feels solid and strong - and yet its pure liquid.

These phenomena are more than science; they are experiences. Light scattering becomes mystery, depth becomes silence, and slow-shutter becomes memory. To witness rare ocean blues is to feel both awe and intimacy, as if the sea itself is offering a glimpse into its soul.

Why It Matters

In a world saturated with artificial color, the ocean’s rare blues remind us of nature’s quiet power. They are fleeting, fragile, and profound—an invitation to pause, reflect, and connect with something larger than ourselves.
